GeoCities, HTML to Art and Poetry
"The interesting thing about art is, it's not what you see, it's what you feel." - E.J. Gold
Back in 1998, I took on a project that combined my growing interest in web development with my appreciation for art and poetry. I started taking online HTML classes, learning how to build websites from the ground up. For my project, I had a thought: why not merge E.J. Gold's paintings with original poetry? The idea was to create a space where people could engage with the artwork by writing their own poems or comments, a bit ahead of its time in terms of social media interaction.
I built the website and hosted it on GeoCities as part of the class. It stayed there, largely unnoticed, as life went on. Years later, during the rise of Suno, I revisited old projects on my hard drive and found the poems paired with E.J. Gold’s paintings. Inspired once more, I decided to breathe new life into the project. This time, I shared the poems and artwork on social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube. The reception has been heartwarming, and it reminds me of the timeless appeal of art and poetry. There's something magical about these creations from a more innocent time, a stark contrast to the jaded perspective I might write from today.
My goal is to continue this journey by sharing these images on eBay and Pinterest. This venture from HTML to poetry, from GeoCities to modern social media, shows how art and creativity can bridge different times and platforms.
Here are all the video songs that I made from the poems that I found from 98
It's funny this is actually my least favorite part of me didn't even want to release it but it's actually gotten the most attention at least on Instagram
One bonus from Suno Alternate version what about the versus song style Lyrics
